NYPD Directive Forbids Officers From Entering Loud Parties Without Consent

Thu, 05/11/2017 - 1:03pm

Noise complaints are common place with anyone who likes to party into the wee hours of the night. Loud sound systems, abrasive music, and raucous partiers are often the ire of neighbors who just want to sleep, or maybe have an infant. The typical practice was to call the police and have them handle it, but according to a new directive from the NYPD, that will change.

According to the new mandate, police are now forbidden from entering parties or homes without consent from the homeowners. In effect, police can essentially be told to go away. (This does not apply to probable cause.)

The reason for the directive could potentially be an increase in the number of lawsuits surrounding officers who enter homes without consent, and confiscate or otherwise break property. A law enforcement source commenting on the directive says, “I guess they’re sick and tired of getting sued so often … People were going to jail, sound systems were being broken or confiscated, and then the judges throw the cases out. I think they’ve had enough lawsuits.”

A separate NYPD source does not approve of the new directive and is worried it will lead to violence: “This is very bad for all… More people will be shot and assaulted, neighbors will lose sleep, and garbage will be strewn all about. This is our new progressive city.

“Parties will go into early morning, which will involve more drinking and neighbors getting into fights, resulting in more shootings. It will be a long, hot summer.”

However, the directive does make a provision for residences or venues that have ignored multiple requests to lower the volume, and states that entering a home or place of residence without the consent of the owner is to be done as a “last resort.”

YourEDM Premiere: FRND – Be Happy (The White Panda Remix)

Thu, 05/11/2017 - 9:44am

The sensational hit from FRND has received an astonishing remix from The White Panda. “Be Happy” has received the black and white treatment from The White Panda who have transformed the chilled out hit into a delightfully danceable tune.

The White Panda have a knack for creating transformational remixes that top the charts. This one is definitely no different. Starting off with the vocals from the original, the black and white clad, mask wearing duo slowly build up the track with layers of soft chords and snappy percussion. The drop comes forward with a lovely vocal synth, over an harmonic bass, accompanied by vocal chops from the original tune. The track will hit you in the feels, or get you ready to dance the night away.

Stephen Colbert Raps Like a Pro with Gorillaz for Epic Late Show Performance of “Feel Good, Inc.”

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 8:29pm

Gorillaz new album Humanz is awesome, but “Feel Good, Inc.” is one of those legendary songs that will forever define their music… So when Stephen Colbert ever so effortlessly joined the band as a fill in for De La Soul to rap the iconic tune for The Late Show Presents: Bonus Tracks, we were shocked at how good it was!

It was so smooth, if it weren’t for the graphics we might not have noticed it was the talk show host that joined Damon Albarn and his band to perform one of their all-time biggest hits. Colbert should really consider a side rap project because he absolutely killed it!

This is just one of the highlights from the 30-minute Gorillaz concert at Ed Sullivan Theater that went down after their televised “Let Me Out” performance with Pusha T.  Watch the very special performance below, and see the full Bonus Tracks episode here!

Daft Punk Sample Discovered After 20 Years

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 8:29pm

20 years ago, the legendary duo Daft Punk released Homework, one of dance music’s most quintessential albums released to date.

Despite the album being chock full of samples, some have taken quite a long time to identify. The most recent sample has been identified by Reddit user r/NCorpMusic. Taken from the Viola Hills song “If You Leave Me Now,” and used in Daft Punk’s “Fresh,” the sample is simply just a bar-long chord loop with two snippets of Viola’s vocal.

Listen to “If You Leave Me Now” and “Fresh” below!

BKAYE & TELYKast Put Their Spin On Post Malone’s Hit “Congratulations”

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 7:49pm

Post Malone’s “Congratulations” became a worldwide phenomenon when it dropped in January, and it’s taken this long for BKAYE and TELYKast to put their own spin on the track.

Post Malone’s tunes are already pretty melodic for hip hop, which tends to make them ideal for remixing with an already established melody. This is in comparison most hip hop, which usually just has a “beat” rather than a “melody.” That being said, future bass is generally the genre of choice when tackling a remix for melodic rap, and BKAYE and TELYKast do it with panache.

Though the future bass in this track isn’t exactly ground breaking in any way, it fits nicely around the verses in “Congratulations” and should give DJs another tool for playing out at shows if the original isn’t the right vibe.

Check it out below.

Krewella Drops Their Newest Single To Celebrate Their Sisterly Bond

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 4:06pm

It’s been a little while since Krewella was in the spotlight, the last time being for their previous single “Team” which came out last December. Now, they’re back with another bouncy tune called “Be There” and an accompanying music video.

As always, the girls’ vocals are a focal point of the production, with a sort of sultry quality to it this time around. It’s certainly warranted as the song is all about the sisters’ bond and the way they’ve stood by each other through the good times and the bad.

The video reiterates those sentiments ten fold, featuring home movies and special moments in Krewella’s career. Check both out below!

Calvin Harris’ Collabo-Heavy Album Already Has A Big Industry Critic

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 1:51pm

Calvin Harris‘ new album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 isn’t even out yet, but it already has a big industry critic…

Deadmau5 took to Twitter give his opinion, particularly as it pertains to the mass of featured artists on the forthcoming release.

Here’s that list again: Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Kehlani, Future, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Big Sean, John Legend, Khalid, Migos, Schoolboy Q, Ariana Grande, Young Thug, D.R.A.M, Nicki Minaj, Lil Yachty, Jessie Reyez, Partynextdoor, Snoop Dogg.

While some people can’t wait for these collaborations, Deadmau5 is less than enthused…

anyone ever remember when calvin harris was just… calvin harris? who the fuck are all these other people? like… why?

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) May 10, 2017

deadmau5 ft. barry manilow ft gloria gaynor ft. ghostface killah ft. REO speedwagon ft. Garth Brooks ft. a potatoe ft. Steve Nash ft. me

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) May 10, 2017

If you can see through the snark, Deadmau5 does have a point. But, he didn’t stop there.

fucking hate watching what i love to do get raped by popular culture for the sake of selling stupid shit for stupid people.

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) May 10, 2017

im not anti-collab. works well when it works well. but fuck, some of this shit just reeks of "i gotta do this to stay on top" not "art". https://t.co/n5u8gdxzrk

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) May 10, 2017

Again, we get the point here, but maybe Harris enjoys making music with popular artists. Maybe they’re all artists in their own right, too. Just maybe.

@TheBinaryLion @CalvinHarris I don't need handouts nor do I feel the need to cling onto people with commercial success to make me feel like I'm better at what I do.

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) May 10, 2017

nothing new here. just your typical sellout rant about people who obviously know how to pander shit for the sake of capitalism. moving on.

Your EDM Premiere: Dillistone Serves Up Some Ibizan Influenced Bliss

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 1:49pm

It’s always a breath of fresh air when you encounter an artist that is building momentum and capturing a huge audience with solely inspiring originals. There almost lies an extra layer of credibility, authenticity and legitimacy behind these creators. Hence such artists are likely to quickly get snapped up by lurking labels, hoping to capitalise on such talent. Dillistone, a born nomad and love child of Copenhagen, Shanghai and London is a perfect example of such a creator.

Today at YourEDM, we have the privilege of premiering his latest original, ‘Don’t Know Why’. This latest original track presents a intricate representation into the progression of the developing nu-pop sound of 2017. Initiating with those Ed Sheeran, Major Lazer and recent Calvin Harris-esque marimba stabs. This original blends a smooth pop-orientated sound with a more disco inspired sound. The disco elements drawn in by  layers of suspended progressions and the calming vocals of talented singer-songwriter, Lili N. This original climaxes in an array of chopped vocals and smooth synths. Instantly taking you to the fore-coming Ibiza sunset parties of 2017.

Dillistone, a naturally talented musician has already received props from the likes of BOSE Audio and Formula 1 Racing for his unique and thought-provoking sound. This latest original is another seemless addition to his developing portfolio which we are ever excited to see realise. Open up those summer playlists and get this jam placed for those summer parties just around the corner.

DJ/Producer Robert Miles Dead At 47

Tue, 05/09/2017 - 9:22pm

News has been circulating today around the death of famous trance pioneer and DJ Robert Miles, who passed away in Ibiza at this evening local time. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Many new fans of EDM and even trance may be unaware of Miles’ influence on the genre and his success in the mid-90s.

According to DJBios.com, “Miles was perhaps most famous for his 1994 single ‘Children,’ which had sold 350,000 copies throughout Europe within two weeks of its release. Along with later songs like ‘Fable’ and ‘Freedom,’ it played no small role in shaping the emerging aesthetic of trance music. To date, it has sold upwards of 5,000,000 copies worldwide.”

Longtime fans of trance are no doubt mourning this loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family at this time.

Dozens of Arrests Made at Middlelands Music Festival Over the Weekend

Tue, 05/09/2017 - 9:22pm

While thousands of attendees are raving about Middlelands, the EDM-meets-medieval times festival that took place over the weekend at the Texas Renaissance Festival Fair Grounds in Todd Mission, dozens of others were hit were hit with drug charges and arrests.

According to Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, roughly 38 people were arrested on charges that ranged from driving while intoxicated to possession of a controlled substance.

“These arrests were mostly for drug related offenses – possession of ecstasy, LSD, cocaine, and marijuana,” Investigator Kindale Pittman said.

In the mugshot gallery provided by the Houston Chronicle, it’s surprising to see that 7 of these arrests were strictly due to “possession of marijuana,” and 4 others for “possession of drug paraphernalia.” In a world where weed is becoming more and more lawfully acceptable, it’s crazy to think people are being arrested at music festivals over it.

However, the small number of overall arrests over the three-day festival shows that people were in generally good spirits and on their best behavior (or hid it well enough). Our full Middlelands festival review will come later this week and we guarantee it gives you FOMO.

Snails & Botnek Release New Track “Waffle House” On OWSLA

Tue, 05/09/2017 - 5:21pm

A lot of Snails tracks have a tendency to be sub-three minutes, something that irks a great many people… but on the other hand, you could consider his productions to be short and sweet, with little to no filler.

His new collaboration with Botnek out today on OWSLA, “Waffle House,” clocks in at 2 minutes and 30 seconds but every second is worth it. It’s a classic blend of both artists’ styles, with Snails weird, vomit-esque synths and Botnek’s electro tendencies both making headway in the mix.

Check out the track below on Soundcloud, and also watch the music video out today, as well.
