Deadmau5 To Perform At Insomniac Warehouse Event For First Time In 5 Years

Mon, 04/10/2017 - 8:09pm

An announcement was made this morning of a brand new event taking place in Los Angeles on April 29, coming as the first pairing between Deadmau5 and acclaimed event organizer Insomniac in five years. The warehouse style event will feature guest performances from ANNA, Monstergetdown and more, and comes as an alternative chance to witness a live Deadmau5 show outside of his quickly approaching “lots of shows in a row” tour.

Earlier this year, Deadmau5 revealed that he would be reigniting his techno side project TESTPILOT at this year’s Movement Festival on May 27-29. The new announcement comes as a follow-up to the Canadian producers’ two recently released LPs, including his late 2016 album W:/2016ALBUM/ and his stuff i used to do compilation this February.

The April 29 event in Los Angeles will take place at Insomniac’s Factory 93 venue, after a string of shows at LA’s Shrine Auditorium. Tickets to the show will be available here starting Tuesday, April 11.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike & Martin Garrix’s Hit “Tremor” Gets A Massive Metal Remix From Sullivan King & Riot Ten

Mon, 04/10/2017 - 4:58pm

Undoubtedly one of the biggest songs of 2014 was “Tremor,” a collaboration between Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Martin Garrix. The big room house song became an absolute anthem at festivals like Ultra and especially Tomorrowland, where DVLM are from and always performing.

One of the most frustrating things about the track, if you didn’t like big room house, was that the intro melody was actually pretty amazing – and something had to be done with it. Remix after remix appeared, though probably none as ridiculous as this one from Sullivan King and Riot Ten, who have melded bass music and metal for an insane remix.

Sullivan King provides his own screaming vocals to the mix, while the combination of both artists’ production comes out to fantastic effect. Check it out below – which it’s short, it’s totally sweet.

The Viral “Literally Fuck Genres” Mix Has A Sequel & It’s Absolutely Amazing

Mon, 04/10/2017 - 1:56pm

Three months ago, Australian producer Willco uploaded a mix to Soundcloud called “Literally Fuck Genres” and it went insanely viral. The blend of absurd mashups and crazy mixing appealed to every messed up millennial music snob on the planet and so it spread like wildfire. Since then, Willco was able to tour off its success, and has since created a sequel mix of even more weird mashups, appropriately titled Literally Fuck Genres Harder.

Of the mix, Willco said, “I’m 99% sure I have ADHD, but only when I’m DJ’ing. I get really bored really easily and want to play dumb shit because I think it’s funny.”

There are way too many epic moments in the mix to list them all out here, but “Ms. Jackson” with the Chicken Dance is one of them; so is “What Does The Fox Say” with “Shooting Stars,” combining two songs that became memes in their own rights in a mix filled with memes is just about as meta as you could possibly get.

Artist Ash Schmitt (Instagram / Facebook) is responsible for the brilliant illustration that goes along with the mix, featuring a tied-up Marshmello on a bed with a mau5 helmet by his feet. The suggestive nature of it is enough to get our engines started, that’s for sure.

Deadmau5 Deals With Lots Of Technical Errors In A Row… Well, Just Watch

Sun, 04/09/2017 - 4:56pm

Every artist has technical difficulties from time to time, and Deadmau5 is no exception.

The carefully planned Lots of Shows in A Row Tour is astonishingly technologically advanced, but that also means there are more possibilities for something to go wrong. During his tour stop in Columbia, MD at Merriweather Post Pavilion last night, his sound cut out twice for a significant amount of time.

.@deadmau5 waiting so long for this disappointment. Set cut out twice for 10 minutes at a time. You’re too technological intelligent for dis pic.twitter.com/UdHtlnN8fg

— EDM in DC (@EDMinDC) April 9, 2017

However, he handled it like a champ — giving comedic relief on the mic and even singing a tune for the crowd while his team got his system back up and running.

Shit fuckin happens man… hey, most people usually shit their pants when this happens. We sucked it up and got it workin! https://t.co/kRP4b1UveM

— dead mow cinco (@deadmau5) April 9, 2017

In the video below he reacts in the best way possible, “What the fuck?! I can’t believe that actually happened! Hang on… This is literally every technical musician’s worst fucking nightmare! But, I’ve learned to embrace such fuck ups!”

Watch the whole thing go down right here…

Cedric Gervais – “Touch the Sky” featuring Digital Farm Animals and Dallas Austin is A Straight Up Banger

Sun, 04/09/2017 - 2:55pm

Cedric Gervais released his latest song “Touch the Sky” featuring Digital Farm Animals and Dallas Austin — It’s totally danceable and totally repeatable!

The song released this week through Delecta Records, a new joint venture label between Cedric Gervais and Armada Music. It’s been a staple during his sets across the world and now we finally get to turn it up whenever we want!

“Touch the Sky” opens with a groovy beat and gets right to it with an indie-pop-like hook, “You get me so high, I touch the sky!” The track progresses into a kind of Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” build then drops into a bouncy, big room banger!

We dare you to try listen to this and not jump all over the place!

Porter Robinson’s Greatest Masterpiece Turns 5 Years Old and We All Need To Listen Again

Sun, 04/09/2017 - 2:03pm

Porter Robinson‘s masterpiece “Language” is turning 5 years old and it still plays as perfectly today as it did back then!

Not only is this song one of Porter’s best, it’s one of the greatest EDM songs in existence. Nothing hits you quite like hearing this song during a Porter set. It’s absolutely exquisite.

Some have tried to remix this (e.g., Jauz, Kayzo & Gammer), but nothing can touch the original. The live edit from his Worlds tour though, is also worth checking out if you haven’t witnessed it live.

So, stop what you’re doing right now, listen, and sing along:

Give me release
Let the waves of time and space surround me
Yeah
Cause I need room to breathe
Let me float back to the place you found me
I’ll be okay

“Language” was uploaded to Soundcloud on December 31, 2011; however, it wasn’t until April 10 the following year that it was officially released in the United States on Big Beat Records as a digital download.

The Chainsmokers Perform “Paris” & “Break Up Every Night” On SNL

Sun, 04/09/2017 - 1:01pm

Last night, The Chainsmokers gave us the first peek at the full, live stage lineup with two keyboardists, a drummer, Alex on keys and synths, and Drew on vocals as a frontman. They performed live on SNL for the first time, something no other EDM act (whether they’ve made the jump to pop or not) has done before.

For the opportunity, they performed their massive hit “Paris,” as well as a new song from the album, “Break Up Every Night.”

The performance for “Paris,” which was first of the night, shows us a couple things. First, The Chainsmokers were absolute geniuses for bringing on Matt McGuire as drummer for their live show because he crushed that performance. Second, SNL’s sound system or method of recording just doesn’t cut it for an electronic-tinged performance. However, Vincent’s team must be absolutely ecstatic that the first drop of the song is from his remix of “Paris.”

As for “Break Up Every Night,” we called it the worst song they’ve ever written in our official review of their album, and that sentiment translates to a live performance, as well. It shows The Chainsmokers’ intent to break away from EDM in full glory, with Drew acting as a pure vocalist frontman, though his voice still needs a lot of work if he’s going to pull that off. Yes, it has a certain quality to it, but there’s room for improvement a plenty. However, once again, we’re stunned with McGuire on drums.

Reddit Describes The Chainsmokers Debut Album In Four Words

Sat, 04/08/2017 - 9:06pm

Following The Chainsmokers’ long awaited release of their debut album Memories…Do Not Open, and despite its immediate leap to the top of several major album sales charts, the Internet has come together to collectively mock and denounce the quality of most of its tracks. One Reddit subreddit in particular, r/EDM, had a special series of criticisms of the work, asking users to comment on a post with a description using only four words. The results, as one might guess, were harsh to say to least.

At the top of writing, nearly all of the top rated replies regarded the album with extreme negativity, with some even referring to the songs as “garbage” and “really horrible.” Meanwhile, at the very bottom of list, a few users said that they enjoyed Memories…Do Not Open. Unfortunately for the fans, their kind words were shoved to the end of the comment thread. Check out a few of the conversation’s highlights below, and say a prayer for The Chainsmokers. Following his towering headline performance at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, boy wonder Martin Garrix and vocalist Dua Lipa have teamed up once again to bring their highly acclaimed single “Scared To Be Lonely” to the next level. In a video released this week on Garrix’s official Youtube page, the two enlist the help of a full-fledged orchestra to transform the track into an acoustic masterpiece.

Featuring sweeping shots of the musicians, Garrix on electric guitar and Lipa at center stage, the video displays the rendition’s beautiful string work, percussion and intimate melodies in a completely fresh manner. Incubus Releases New Music Video, Talks Skrillex On Upcoming Album

Sat, 04/08/2017 - 3:58pm

In celebration of Incubus‘ upcoming album 8 set to release on April 21, the iconic rock group just dropped a wacky, cat-themed music video for the work’s first single. “Nimble Bastard” showcases a crew of evildoing dogs that try to thwart the band from filming their video, all while the high-energy alternative bliss plays out in front.

As part of the video’s premiere, Incubus’ Brandon Boyd sat down with Consequence of Sound for a brief Q&A in which they discussed the impetus behind the new album’s creation and Skrillex’s involvement in the creative process. An entire year before Skrillex was able to touch any of the material however, Boyd said the entire album had already been written.

“The album was already written about a year before Skrillex came in to listen to it as a friend, as a peer. He then mixed the album and co-produced a handful of the tracks on it.”

After putting his own touches on 8, Boyd said Skrillex asked to start from scratch on a remix of one of the tracks.

“He humbly asked if he could do a remix to one of the songs, so we gave him the stems, he took it, and it sounded so much better than what it had before. One of them is called “Loneliest” and another “Familiar Faces”. He didn’t really bring what you’d expect though.”

Having begun his career in rock with the recently revived group From First To Last, Boyd said Skrillex’s knowledge of the alternative sound Incubus was looking for was spot on.

“Sonny is a fantastic musician, and as you said he comes from rock and roll, so he knows his way around a guitar. It was really exciting to see an added layer to this onion.”
